What could be a better topic for the day than Mother’s Day? During the pandemic times, when majority of the people are finally realizing the value of relationship, this one remains a cornerstone of all, an umbilical cord of emotions and reverence which simply doesn’t translate into words.

I won’t get soapy, nor would write an essay with all the clichés, but would instead let one song talk about the superpower of mothers.

Having not much of an exposure to the English ocean of songs on mothers, I share two playlists which i found quite all-encompassing of all the shades of emotions.

In Hindi, there are innumerable songs dedicated to moms from Taare Zameen Par’s tearjerker ‘Maa‘ to Dasvidaniya’s nostalgic ‘Meri Maa.’ But I have a very different song in mind, which perhaps has nothing to do with Mother’s Day –

For those who don’t know the context, it’s from the movie ‘Two States’ based on the novel of the same name by Chetan Bhagat starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor. The premise of this song is, the man in love attempts to woo his would-be in-laws by hook or crook and single-handedly inserts his future mother-in-law’s name in the list of singers in a major concert organized by his company. The shy mother of the girl surely but steadily comes on her own during the performance, surprising her own family with her prowess.

It’s the journey perhaps every mother yearns, and some get at the end – realizing self, achieving dreams and finding their place in the world out from the shadow of their spouses or children. Sridevi’s English Vinglish remains on top of the list of my ‘mother’ films for the same reason.

All love and care to all the mothers of the world!

Happy YouTubin!
