AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in past 12 hours recorded 45 new Covid-19 positive cases, taking the total tally to 617. The cases include 31 from Ahmedabad, Surat 9, Mehsana 2 and one each from Bhavnagar, Dahod and Gandhinagar. 

The fresh Covid cases include 21 men and 24 women, said state health department officials.
Ahmedabad continues to lead the tally with 351 cases or 57% of total recorded in Gujarat. The city has also recorded 13 deaths so far which is 50% of deaths recorded in Gujarat.

Jayanti Ravi, principal secretary (health & family welfare), said that in past 12 hours, one coronavirus positive person has been discharged from SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad, taking the total tally of recovered patients to 55.

“One of the cases recorded in Bhavnagar had been to Nagarwada in Vadodara, an identified Covid-19 hotspot. He was under 14-day quarantine. The report tested positive during routine testing as part of procuring. Likewise, two cases of Mehsana – one each from Vadnagar and Saltasana – had been to Mumbai together to attend a funeral. Upon return, they showed symptoms and their test turned out to be positive,” said the principal secretary.

A health worker has been tested positive in Dahod. Ravi said that the person was closely associated with the treatment of a corona positive girl from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. “Majority of the cases recorded from Ahmedabad are from identified hotspots,” she added.

District-wise break-up includes – 351 from Ahmedabad, Vadodara 107, Surat 42, Bhavnagar 24, Rajkot 18, Gandhinagar 16, Patan 14, Bharuch 11, Anand 9, 4 each from Kutch, Mehsana, Porbandar 3, 2 each from Panchmahal, Dahod and Banaskantha and 1 each from Jamnagar, Morbi and Sabarkantha.

In the past 24 hours, 1,996 people were tests out of which 79 are positive. Cumulatively, the state has performed 14,980 tests out of which 617 are positive and 14,363 negative. There is no pending case as on Tuesday morning, said health department officials.

“The random testing based on ICMR guidelines in 14 districts which had not recorded any positive case has been instrumental in finding two positive cases from Banaskantha on Monday. Afterwards, no other positive case has been reported from these districts,” said Ravi. As on Tuesday morning, 13 out of 33 districts of Gujarat have not recorded any positive case.

Number of patients on a ventilator has increased from four on Monday to nine on Tuesday. Remaining 527 patients are stable. Out of nine persons on ventilator, seven are at SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad and one each in Bhavnagar and Kutch, said Ravi.
