RAJKOT/ AHMEDABAD: A worrisome trend is enfolding in Gujarat which has recorded 70 coronavirus cases and six dead by Monday evening. Of the total Covid-19 confirmed cases, 34 or close to 50% persons are cases of local infection.
From March 19 when state first reported Covid cases, it is for the first time on Monday that local transmission cases have surpassed number of 32 patients with history of international travel.
In fact, local transmission is a major concern for administration in different districts like Amreli and Bhavnagar in Saurashtra which is grappling with lakhs of people returning home from Surat where they had migrated for jobs or business. Many are also coming back from Ahmedabad and Rajkot.
A case in point is death of a 45-year-old woman, who succumbed late on Sunday night, to Covid after returning from Surat to her native in Jesar village in Bhavnagar district.
