AHMEDABAD: To combat against coronavirus spread in city, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday announced a support to the family members of those in quarantine. Ahmedabad with two confirmed positive coronavirus cases has the highest of the five cases reported in Gujarat as on Friday.
Vijay Nehra, city municipal commissioner, mentioned on Friday that if the family members of those who have returned after a trip abroad recently wish to join the person in isolation, the move would be supported by AMC to prevent spread. “Under ‘Voluntary Family Quarantine’ initiative, the entire family would be isolated at their residences. They would be supported by the AMC by provision of all amenities free of cost. About 500 persons with travel history abroad are in the city at present,” he said.
He also appealed to the family members of those under quarantine to reduce social interaction and follow all the precautions of social distancing to prevent spread of viral infection.
“We have decided to close down all paan shops from immediate effect till March 31 so as to prevent spitting in public. The fine for spitting has also been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1000. Since Monday, we have collected Rs 22.4 lakh in fine for spitting in public, perhaps the highest among Gujarat cities,” said Nehra.
The AMC extended support to Sunday Junta Curfew, as suggested by PM Narendra Modi, on March 22. AMC officials said that the day would see complete closure of AMC services such as AMTS, BRTS, public parks and gardens, etc. The day would be utilized to clean and disinfect the premises and vehicles, they added.
Nehra said that AMC-run Aadhar card centres and civic centres would remain closed till March 31. For the tax payment, citizens can avail online facilities. Those who could not use it or can’t access it, can call 15503 helpline number and an AMC employee would come to their residence to collect the cheque.
