Ahmedabad: How can the writing by artificial intelligence (AI) be distinguished from something written by a human? Can AI-generated imagery be detected to put an end to deepfakes? These were some of the questions experts raised on day one of the two-day India-UK Forensic Sciences and Cyber Security Conference hosted by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) on Monday.

A senior NFSU official told TOI that the collaboration between the university and the British Commission would focus on training law enforcement agencies along with research and development (R&D).

“The existing tools for cyber forensics do not cover the extent of development in the field of AI and machine learning (ML). Thus, in consultation with the digital and legal experts in these fields, we will be working on new tools that can be used for both crime prevention and detection,” said the official.

The participants included senior officials from state police and central agencies dealing with cybercrimes.

The conference was inaugurated by MoS (home) Harsh Sanghavi in the presence of Dr J M Vyas, director general of NFSU, and British deputy high commissioner Christina Scott.
